How rain water gets into your crawlspace or basement Quality Home Inspections of East Tennessee

Below is a drawn illustration of how water can get into your crawlspace or basement. This particular drawing shows a home with no gutters, but this could easily be a home with inadequate guttering. If gutters are not installed properly, if the water runs over the gutters then its the same as not having gutters at all.

Notice in the drawing how the grade next to the house has deteriorated. Not only will this house need gutters, but the grading next to the home will need to be restored. Once the water gets into the crawlspace or basement mold can set in followed by wood rot. The edge of the roof should also have a drip edge to avoid wood rot on the ends of the rooftop.
